Dawna Dowdell's PledgePage

I made a commitment a few years ago to help in finding a cure for cancer. I didn't know how far that commitment would take me until October 20, 2001. I received a phone call from my friend Larry who lives in Chicago informing me that my bestfriend had cancer. I'll never forget his words. He said "Dawna, Debbie has breast cancer". I knew all of our lives would be changed forever. The very next week-end October 28, I walk 5 miles in the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" where I live near San Francisco. I haven't walked 5 miles in 20 years. But, that day I did it non-stop for Debbie and many others. The next week-end November 3, I registered for the "Avon Breast Cancer 3Day". A 60 mile walk from San Jose to San Francisco. I also planned a surprise trip to Minnesota to visit Debbie and her (my) family just days after her surgery. I arrived Nov. 22 Thanksgiving morning. Did I mention that was also our 39th birthday week-end. Debbie on Nov. 23 and me on Nov. 26. Thanks to our good friend Beverly everyone was totally surprise. Thanks to "Early Detection and Self Examination" and most of all God Debbie's doing well.

I have some wonderful supporters. Financial and mental supporters in this and all of my events. I had a bake sale and raised $350.50. I had to raise $1,900.00 to participate in the event, but I always had a personal goal of $5,700.00. That's $1,900 for Debbie, $1,900 for my very dear friend Peggy and $1,900 for the many others.
